Research motives

  • Critical need for effective prevention and therapy for cancer

Effective treatment is critical as cancer accounts for the highest disease-related death rate in South Korea, at the expense of debilitating socio-economic losses

  • Increase in global interest in precision medicine

Necessity of precision medicine has been recognized relatively earlier by leading countries, which are at the forefront of the field via prominent projects in USA such as Precision Medicine Initiative (2015) & National Cancer Moonshot Initiative (2016), where focus is largely on promoting personalized treatment for cancer patients

  • Expanding biomarker-related technology based on genomic research

Precision medicine-based diagnostics and therapies are being developed in leading countries using biomarkers unearthed through cancer genome analysis research
